Talk by Matjaz Vidmar, Postgraduate Research Student (PhD), Science Technology and Innovation Studies, School of Social and Political Science, The University of Edinburgh

Space Industry in Scotland is slowly becoming recognised as a global brand in the current small and commercial “New Space” era. In particular, Glasgow is now making more satellites than any other city outside USA, Edinburgh is fast becoming the Space Data capital of Europe and the projects to put up “Spaceports” in the North of Scotland (Sutherland, Shetland, Western Isles) are all turning the “Space Glen” into a one-stop-shop for your new space solution. But how does it all hang together and how can you get involved? What role do new ideas from Silicon Valley play in setting up companies in Scotland? This talk, based on over 5 years of extensive research within Scottish Space Industry, will try to separate the illusive hype and hyperbolae from actual facts and forecasts. After all – who said it was not rocket science?
