Prof. Petri Vaisanen, Director of the South African Astronomical Observatory gave us a very interesting presentation on the “South African Large Telescope (SALT) and SAAO – responding to astronomy in the 2020s”. This was followed by the Sky in June from ASE member Nigel Goodman and then our AGM for members only.
Petri told us about their current projects and technologies but also their ambitious plans for the future.
You can see the video of the talks on our YouTube channel and on the video in this post.
AGM
At our Annual General Meeting, Andrew Farrow gave an excellent address, looking back at his 3 years as President. The minutes of the previous AGM were adopted and the Annual Report for 2020 was accepted with a couple of minor typos. The Annual Report will shortly be posted on our website.
The council for the next session was also elected unopposed and the appointments can be seen on our About Us page. Mark Phillips takes on the role of President and we welcome two new Council members in Sarah Bulman (who will be co-opted from July) and Nigel Goodman.
