Des Loughney travelled to China to observe the total solar eclipse
on 1st August 2008. This wide-angle shot gives an idea of
what the scene looked like to the naked eye. Note Venus some distance
top left of the sun, also the edge of the lunar shadow at the bottom
left. The insert shows the sun and Mercury threefold enlarged.
